Among the five communication mediums, I am most interested in mass communication and intrapersonal communication. Intrapersonal communication is intriguing to me because it is the act of communicating internally with one’s self, which is something that everyone does, all the time, subconsciously and with conscious effort. As the author of our reading stated, intrapersonal communication is important because it is how we maintain our self-concept and influence others’ perceptions of ourselves. I am also interested in mass communication because it’s a way to communicate instantaneously across various platforms, and it’s also a way of establishing a strong media presence and reaching larger audiences. One of my career interests is Marketing, and marketing relies on mass communication, which is another reason for my interest.

I am still in the exploratory phase of choosing a profession, but I oscillate between business and/or psychology related careers. For business, I am interested in Marketing, HR, and Data Analysis. For psychology, I am interested mostly in research and how it influences decision making. Since I have two career interests, I like learning about the intersection of psychology and business, as some elements of psychology are useful in business operations.

In an article by Faster Capitol, the link between psychology and marketing is investigated and possesses a symbiotic relationship: “By understanding the psychological principles that drive human behavior, marketers can more effectively craft messages and campaigns that appeal to their target audiences. Conversely, by studying how people respond to marketing messages and campaigns, psychologists can gain insights into the workings of the human mind,” (The Intersection of Psychology and Marketing - FasterCapital, n.d.).

Communication is at the essence of every interaction individuals share with each other and is vital in building and maintaining relationships. The different aspects of communication are important to be explored as we interact with each other and broaden our perspectives.
